We are an independent performance company, who have brought a wide variety of unique and successful events over the last decade to audiences across Australia and New Zealand. While we specialise in interactive horror-themed events, our library extends to include team-based interactive performances, family-fun shows, work functions and special events, and comedy. Our productions deliver new and interesting ways to engage audiences in our story worlds using innovative delivery methods, and we are always seeking new and exciting elements that keep our audiences keen for the next show we bring.
Independent Contractor – We are seeking contractors for longer-term opportunities with us, who will represent our company by executing our production requirements across New Zealand. This is a great opportunity for those looking to establish an understanding of the industry, gain valuable paid experience, see more of New Zealand, and be involved with innovative production experiences. The position provides an attractive hourly rate, including performance bonuses.
As a Touring Presenter, you will be responsible for ensuring that the production goes ahead in keeping with the schedule and according to direction. You collaborate remotely with our management team to bring our productions to life, communicating through a variety of platforms such as email and zoom.
Most of the role involves on-location work to run the production on the night that it is scheduled. This includes a period of set up and preparation time, the running of the live production for its duration, and pack down. Additional responsibilities include the possession and maintenance of the production kit between shows, sourcing replacements or new items where required, liaising with management for solutions to any issues, and overcoming any challenges to the production delivery on the night.
Most of our productions are in entirely outdoor settings, and so you must be comfortable about working outside at night.
Production hours are paid at $42 p/h, with additional performance bonuses. If on tour and using your own vehicle, a $100 fee is paid and the cost of fuel to and from the Booking location is covered by us. An additional retainer of $150 ($300 when touring) is paid weekly, and Touring Presenters are expected to earn $900 p/w of full touring (Thursday – Sunday).
To succeed as a Touring Presenter, you should embody the following qualities:
- Ability to work under limited supervision
- Ability to work in a small team to complete tasks
- Have a good sense of problem-solving initiative
- Comfortable working outside at night for the duration of the production
- Ability to work to defined guidelines
- A passion for the entertainment industry
- A working knowledge of health and safety considerations for exterior productions
- An understanding of the technical requirements and elements of a successful production
- Good communication and people skills
Our shows attract audiences all over New Zealand and so we bring our productions to a wide range of metro and regional cities. As a Touring Presenter, you will be required to travel with the production kit to the designated venue, including to regional locations. The venue will be different each week, but there will be instances where a production returns to the same venue a number of weeks apart. For productions outside of your home metro area, travel and accommodation is covered by the company. Contractors past and present have always enjoyed this unique opportunity to see more of New Zealand, and we love to bring entertainment to the wider New Zealand public.
Primary working hours are from 6:00pm – 11:00pm Friday and Saturday evenings. The hours may vary slightly as sales or circumstances dictate. Please note – this role is highly likely to be outside of your home metro area most weekends, and therefore it is necessary to be able to be away from home at these times.
Additional working hours include administration tasks, venue scouting, or other production related activities as required. These are generally flexible but must be completed within the outlined timeframe.
You will report remotely to the Touring Manager, who will be your primary contact with us. Reporting requirements include the completion of a show run sheet when on location for each production, updating the Touring Manager with relevant details, and using initiative and knowledge of the production to alert us to any issues / impacts to the production, either potential or realised.
You will also provide direction to other on-site crew, ensuring that directions from management are executed correctly, and by making decisions in the best interest of the production where required.
- Full drivers license
- Your own vehicle is not necessary but is desirable.
- Past acting experience
- Past experience in set up / pack down of events
- Experience / comfortable with interacting with members of the public
Reasonable level of fitness and physical ability in order to facilitate the set up of props and show elements along the designated area, usually over approximately a 2km round trail. Set up includes the placement of lightweight objects at up to both head height and ground level.
