About the role

Our clients specialised pipe welding and fabrication business is growing and with a strong forward workbook we need a talented professional to join our vision of being exceptional engineers. You will get to play an active hands-on team leadership role overseeing a small team of professional tradespeople providing expertise to a wide and varied range of customers.

Working in both stainless and mild steel, you and your team will be creating pipe solutions for a varied range of industries, including fisheries, food manufacturing and marine.

So, in this role you will get to use your extensive pipe skills, knowledge and abilities to manage diverse on-the-job technical challenges. You will also get the chance to really extend your existing leadership experience through proactively leading, training and coaching your team. Motivated to always deliver the best outputs you can, you love nothing more than being able to instil this same passion for high quality in the team of professionals you oversee. Happiest leading by example, you really enjoy coaching/training your team by being hands on alongside them. You ideally hold a Trade Certificate in a relevant mechanical engineering field, or if not, are able to show equivalent skills gained via on-the-job training and experience. It is likely you are already in a team lead or similar role; however, you might be a skilled tradesperson with some supervisory experiences under your belt who is looking for the opportunity to step up.

So as a minimum, you will ideally have:

  • Practical hands-on experience in pipe fabrication (minimum 5 years preferred).
  • A solid knowledge of welding, including working to ASME IX or similar standards.
  • A good working knowledge of machines, tools and equipment used in both pipe welding and fabrication work.
  • Stainless steel experience (not essential but would be a definite an advantage).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Current Drivers Licence - Class One, minimum or capable of gaining this.
